A very successful 3-day conference/workshop was held at the Parthenope University in Naples, Italy in September, 2017 on the topic of energy studies. While talks and workshops addressed broad issues regarding energy and environmental security, there were a number of individual talks and workshops addressed specifically to emergy and its possible contributions.
The first BIWAES was in 1998, and this was the 10th meeting. A truly international effort, over the years, four events were held in Porto Venere (Italy), one in Campinas (Brazil), and the most recent prior event was in Mumbai (India). The workshop website is here: BIWAES2017
